I'm an "Accidental Medical Writer"

Did I tell you I was an "Accidental Medical Writer"? Yes, I'm a Math major, Computer Science minor, and worked as an engineer for a loooong time -- until all my jobs went to India and my companies disappeared out from under me. What to do now? A friend said, Why not try medical writing? And so I did. And now I am! That's the story I tell in my AMWA "NP?NP!" roundtable. If I can come out of left field and be successful, you can come out of the lab or the practice, or wherever -- and do it too!

TODAY's TIP: Thanks to my freelance colleagues Brian and Cyndy who coined the term!

No Work Today! Just Driving!

Didn't get any work done today. Spent the weekend in Phily cuz I had to teach a writing class on Saturday. No, not paid! Volunteer work for my professional organization, AMWA (the Delaware Valley Chapter). But, it was way down in Philly -- a loooong way down 95 from Boston! And I learned lots also in the sessions I attended. A great learning day with other freelancers.

TODAY's TIP: More about Interstate 95! I couldn't google it when I was driving; but I did when I got home!

"No Portfolio? No Problem!"

On Saturday, April 14, Cheryl taught the "No Portfolio? No Problem!" roundtable seminar at the AMWA Delaware Valley "10th Annual Freelance Workshop." Cheryl showed how to create a medical writing portfolio -- how to create writing samples and create a green e-portfolio.

TODAY's TIP: e-portfolio info

My Words Came to Life Tonight!

Boston WEZE 590AM THE WORD radio read my story, "My Good Friday," tonight on their "Moods of Easter Sunday Night" show. An hour syndicated radio show -- spiritual music, 2 short stories (one mine), 3 poems. Pretty neat! Am used to my words being in print, but not in voice! (Was also on www.wezeradio.com)

TODAY's TIP: Check out WEZE "THE WORD" RADIO

You Know, I Also Teach!

I'm teaching a roundtable at the AMWA Delaware Valley chapter's "Freelance Workshop" on April 14: "No Portfolio? No Problem!". Looks like it is volunteer work today, instead of paying work -- as I prepare. Be sure to join your professional organization(s), and be sure to volunteer for them. You make invaluable networking contacts. I "Linked In" with all my students and teachers from a conference as soon as I return home (before they forget who I am!). Also with anyone at my lunch table. NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK

TODAY's TIP: I trashed all my collected biz cards and lists, and I let Linked In keep track of everyone I know. The paperless office!

My Story is on the Radio!

Salem Radio Networks is reading my shortshort story, “My Good Friday Labyrinth Walk”, during their spiritual “Moods of Sunday Night” syndicated 4/8/12 Easter program! 9-10pm. Local WEZE 590AM, or www.weze.com. They googled, found it, and asked for permission. (Of course! My Easter gift!) You just never know what is going to happen to your words...

TODAY's TIP: Posted on the Creative Christian Writers website.
